Your Tampa CPA Explains the History of April 15 as Tax Day

Tampa CPATax day traditionally is April 15, but it hasn’t always been so. In fact, it isn’t always the case even now – when certain holidays fall on April 15, or when it falls on a weekend, the federal income tax-filing deadline is pushed back to the next available regular work day. Originally, when the federal government introduced the first income tax to help pay for the Civil War in 1861, the deadline was June 30. It was changed to March 1 in 1913, and moved to March 15 five years later. Not until 1955 was the April 15 deadline established.

The days and weeks leading up to April 15 are, naturally, an exciting and busy time for your Tampa CPA from Reliance Consulting, LLC.
